Here is a list of fun and beneficial journals you might like to have, as you begin your journaling experiene.

The Unbound Pages (Highlights freedom of expression)

Directions:

  1. Day One: Set the timer for 5 minutes. Use your journal to write on a page titled 'Free Writing'. Remember this doesn't need to follow any English or Formating protocol. If a thought comes to your mind, write it down!

  1. Day Two: Go back and reread your writing. Choose a statement you wrote about yesterday in your 'Free Writing' timeslot and now use a new page to journal about that particular statement.

  2. Day Three: Sit in a location that is different than your usual writing spot. It can still be at home, yard, or a unique place you want to sit today. Now use your five senses to experience this location so that your writing smells, hears, touches, sees, and smells the important things around you.

  3. Day Four: 'Write Around' Directions: Draw an oval circle on a paper and keep it going all the way around it the page. Write sentences, words, or phrases that come to your mind. See example here: Now set the timer and write your name in the middle of the spiral and then follow the lines, writing sentences about yourself from birth to now. Be honest, simple, and reflective.

  4. Day Five: Use the 'Write Around' Journal page for your topic selection and now write about one of your statements on the next page of your journal. Tell the memory or the story you heard, tell about why it is a good memory or a memory that created some type of unknown emotion, then dig deep into the feeling and reaction that came over you. I loved this blog about journaling because it helped me to start out small and realize that I can just write anything that comes to my mind. It was just for me and it did not need to connect the phrases I was writing down. The next day, it was interesting and to go back and read my 5 min. writing and then locate a statement/phrase that I wanted to continue writing about on Day Two. Thanks for the journaling ideas!

Thank you for getting me started. The pages were simple and thoughfful in their format and it helped me to relax and just let my writing flow as the words and phrases entered my mind.
